We went here just for lunch and the palace staff was kind to offer a free guided tour of palace etc . The service provided by the staff was quite good , everyone was very welcoming and humble but we were a little disappointed by the food. We traveled here just to try the authentic Chettinad food and to our utter surprise food was catering to a foreign palate - not at all spicy (could not even call it medium spiced for an Indian palate ) and even the spread looked quite humbling for a 1100 rs lunch per person. The fish served was also not fresh . I would have expected better from a restaurant in heart of Chettinad serving the regional food. Hope this review helps improve the food .

We stayed here as a family for 3-nights. The service was amazing. The staff went out of their way to make sure our stay was comfortable. The food was excellent and certainly the tastiest Chettinad cuisine we have had. The facilities however were disappointing. The mansion itself is old and crumbling. It needs a lot of maintenance and the owners need to do some work here. The rooms are very bare and apart from a bed, contain nothing else - not even a wardrobe, cupboard, fridge or television. The bathrooms are quite terrible and are not international tourist standard. Therefore, the place in general does not offer good value for money. There is nothing to do in the village. The closest proper town is Karaikudi, which is 15kms away and you need a car to get around.

Every person should experience this amazing authenticated mansion atleast once in their life time. Ambience, food and people over there are amazing. Staffs are so responsible and friendly to approach. Thank u chettinad mansion for the memorable moments which we had will stay in our hearts till our life time.....

The location is good and property is maintained well. The rooms are not airy and lack of an outdoor balcony can be problem for some. The food can be better and if you can spend little more you should definitely choose other good options in Kothamangalam or Ramchandrapuram villages with other itineraries.

I am starring with heavy note because o.f my worst & unprofessional experience I faced while I stayed during last week of Dec 2023 with my family. This Property is run by some Chertiar Group but not worth except the Building Heritage nearly 120 yrs old. Nothing you can expect as per our choce of Food & Service as offered in Reputed Hotels charging min Rs. . 6000/ per night per room. Everything is monopolised . Hygiene & Cleanliness is averge. Staffs are not aware of Service standard and not trained The Manager Mr.Gopakumar a Hotel Management Graduate is become a victim to the Management policy & he acts as a dictator. Overall to coclude No Value for Money. Except for the building. No choice in breakfast. No Dosa, Poori Masala, filter Coffee. Everything to be decided by the Manager. He doesn't want to hear guests suggestion and adamant. Will the Management group look in to it anfd change the policy and offer a feel good service. I am pointing out the facts because I am Retd, 4 Star Hotel GM served under the governance of late Sir. M. A. M Ramasamy Chettiyar,. Regards. Murugesan

Excellent service - everything else is secondary. You feel like you are staying in a palace and all your needs are fully taken care of. Staff are very polite, friendly, knowledgeable about the town, history, culture and food. Rooms were spacious, very comfortable and all amenities were available. Good selection of food for breakfast buffet. Limited variety, but authentic local food was available. Taste was great. Coffee, tea and other beverages were available for order. There was complimentary welcome drink and coffee/tea/juice available with breakfast buffet. The Mansion was rich in culture, architecture and heritage. Every wall, pillar, ceiling, floor had some interesting facts. The manager explained in detail the history of the town, culture and the Mansion. A video show is available explaining everything about the place. A small, but rich collection of items are available in the museum inside the Mansion. Video show, museum and tour of entire mansion is part of stay package. Definitely worth staying in Chettinadu Mansion if you are looking for options in and around Karaikudi.

Old Chettinad mansion that is now boutique hotel. It is like stepping back in time. Cycle around the old village as the sun is setting. Unique experience.
